On May 26th and 27th 2026, the EUFOG doctoral network gathered in Oslo for its second network-wide event hosted by ARENA Center for European Studies. During two intense days, doctoral candidates, senior researchers, and invited experts engaged in academic exchange, training, and dialogue.

This event presented a great opportunity to discuss timely research on different aspects of EU foreign policy, ranging from security and defense to enlargement, what the current dynamics in the international system mean for the EU, NATO, and our partners across the globe.

Additionally, we had the pleasure of counting with Dr. Seweryn Krupnik from the Jagiellonian University and Dr. Marianna Lovato from Tallinn University, who taught two training sessions on Qualitative Comparative Analysis and Social Network Analysis respectively.

The EUFOG doctoral candidates presented their PhD research and received concrete feedback in an open discussion format which enabled them to practice crucial skills in any researcher’s toolkit. In the next few months, the EUFOG doctoral candidates will continue to hone these skills while they further develop their research during their upcoming secondments.

Be sure to follow our EUFOG doctoral candidates on their social media to learn more about the next generation of EU Foreign Policy research!

The two day event finished with an expert panel discussion organized by ARENA Center for European Studies in the context of our project and titled “Is the EU replacing NATO?”.

The speakers were:

  • Pol Morillas, Director of CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs)

  • Patrick Müller, Professor for European Studies, Centre for European Integration Research (EIF), University of Vienna, and Vienna School for International Studies
